Surah Al Alaq

ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ

Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ

Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).

ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ

Read!

And your Lord is the Most Generous,

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ

Who has taught (the writing) by the pen.

[the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]

عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ

Has taught man that which he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ  

Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.).

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ  

Because he considers himself self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ  

Surely! Unto your Lord is the return.

أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنۡهَىٰ  

Have you (O Muhammad SAW) seen him (i.e. Abû Jahl) who prevents,

عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ  

A slave (Muhammad SAW) when he prays?

أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ  

Tell me, if he (Muhammad SAW) is on the guidance (of Allâh)?

أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ  

Or enjoins piety?

أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ  

Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abû Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Qur'ân), and turns away?

أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ  

Knows he not that Allâh does see (what he does)?

كَلَّا لَٮِٕن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ  

Nay! If he (Abû Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock,

نَاصِيَةٍ۬ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ۬  

A lying, sinful forelock!

فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُ  

Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers),

سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ  

We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)!

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡ وَٱقۡتَرِب 

Nay! (O Muhammad SAW)! Do not obey him (Abû Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allâh! ۩
