Surah Al Tahrim

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَآ أَحَلَّ ٱللَّهُ لَكَ‌ۖ

O Prophet! Why do you ban (for yourself) that which Allah has made lawful to you,

تَبۡتَغِى مَرۡضَاتَ أَزۡوَٲجِكَ‌ۚ

seeking to please your wives?

وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬  

And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

قَدۡ فَرَضَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ تَحِلَّةَ أَيۡمَـٰنِكُمۡ‌ۚ

Allah has already ordained for you (O men), the dissolution of your oaths.

وَٱللَّهُ مَوۡلَٮٰكُمۡ‌ۖ

And Allah is your Maula (Lord, or Master, or Protector, etc.)

وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ  

and He is the All-Knower, the All-Wise.

وَإِذۡ أَسَرَّ ٱلنَّبِىُّ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضِ أَزۡوَٲجِهِۦ حَدِيثً۬ا

And (remember) when the Prophet (SAW) disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives (Hafsah),

فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَتۡ بِهِۦ وَأَظۡهَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِ عَرَّفَ بَعۡضَهُ ۥ وَأَعۡرَضَ عَنۢ بَعۡضٍ۬‌ۖ

so when she told it (to another i.e. Aishah), and Allah made it known to him, he informed part thereof and left a part.

فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَهَا بِهِۦ قَالَتۡ مَنۡ أَنۢبَأَكَ هَـٰذَا‌ۖ

Then when he told her (Hafsah) thereof, she said: "Who told you this?"

قَالَ نَبَّأَنِىَ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٱلۡخَبِيرُ  

He said: "The All-Knower, the All-Aware (Allah) has told me".

إِن تَتُوبَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ فَقَدۡ صَغَتۡ قُلُوبُكُمَا‌ۖ

If you two (wives of the Prophet SAW, namely Aishah and Hafsah) turn in repentance to Allah, (it will be better for you), your hearts are indeed so inclined (to oppose what the Prophet SAW likes),

وَإِن تَظَـٰهَرَا عَلَيۡهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ مَوۡلَٮٰهُ وَجِبۡرِيلُ وَصَـٰلِحُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ‌ۖ

but if you help one another against him (Muhammad SAW), then verily, Allah is his Maula (Lord, or Master, or Protector, etc.), and Jibrael (Gabriel), and the righteous among the believers,

وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕڪَةُ بَعۡدَ ذَٲلِكَ ظَهِيرٌ  

and furthermore, the angels are his helpers.

عَسَىٰ رَبُّهُ ۥۤ إِن طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَن يُبۡدِلَهُ ۥۤ أَزۡوَٲجًا خَيۡرً۬ا مِّنكُنَّ

It may be if he divorced you (all) that his Lord will give him instead of you, wives better than you,

مُسۡلِمَـٰتٍ۬ مُّؤۡمِنَـٰتٍ۬ قَـٰنِتَـٰتٍ۬ تَـٰٓٮِٕبَـٰتٍ عَـٰبِدَٲتٍ۬ سَـٰٓٮِٕحَـٰتٍ۬ ثَيِّبَـٰتٍ۬ وَأَبۡكَارً۬ا

Muslims (who submit to Allah), believers, obedient to Allah, turning to Allah in repentance, worshipping Allah sincerely, fasting or emigrants (for Allah's sake), previously married and virgins.

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قُوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَأَهۡلِيكُمۡ نَارً۬اوَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلۡحِجَارَةُ

O you who believe!

Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones,

عَلَيۡہَا مَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ۬ شِدَادٌ۬

over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe,

لَّا يَعۡصُونَ ٱللَّهَ مَآ أَمَرَهُمۡ وَيَفۡعَلُونَ مَا يُؤۡمَرُونَ  

who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَا تَعۡتَذِرُواْ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ‌ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ

(It will be said in the Hereafter)

O you who disbelieve (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism)! Make no excuses this Day! You are being requited only for what you used to do .

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ تُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوۡبَةً۬ نَّصُوحًا

O you who believe!

Turn to Allah with sincere repentance!

عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ

It may be that your Lord will remit from you your sins,

وَيُدۡخِلَڪُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٍ۬ تَجۡرِى مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ

and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise)

يَوۡمَ لَا يُخۡزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُ ۥ‌ۖ

the Day that Allah will not disgrace the Prophet (Muhammad SAW) and those who believe with him,

نُورُهُمۡ يَسۡعَىٰ بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيہِمۡ وَبِأَيۡمَـٰنِہِمۡ

their Light will run forward before them and with (their Records Books of deeds) in their right hands

يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَتۡمِمۡ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَآ‌ۖ

they will say: "Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us (and do not put it off till we cross over the Sirat (a slippery bridge over the Hell) safely) and grant us forgiveness.

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ ڪُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ قَدِيرٌ۬  

Verily, You are Able to do all things."

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ جَـٰهِدِ ٱلۡڪُفَّارَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِينَ وَٱغۡلُظۡ عَلَيۡہِمۡ‌ۚ

O Prophet (Muhammad SAW)! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be severe against them,

وَمَأۡوَٮٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُ‌ۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ  

their abode will be Hell, and worst indeed is that destination.

ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلاً۬ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱمۡرَأَتَ نُوحٍ۬ وَٱمۡرَأَتَ لُوطٍ۬‌ۖ

Allah sets forth an example for those who disbelieve, the wife of Nooh (Noah) and the wife of Lout (Lot).

ڪَانَتَا تَحۡتَ عَبۡدَيۡنِ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا صَـٰلِحَيۡنِ

They were under two of our righteous slaves,

فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمۡ يُغۡنِيَا عَنۡہُمَا مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا

but they both betrayed their (husbands by rejecting their doctrine) so they (Nooh (Noah) and Lout (Lot) ) benefited them (their respective wives) not, against Allah,

وَقِيلَ ٱدۡخُلَا ٱلنَّارَ مَعَ ٱلدَّٲخِلِينَ

and it was said: "Enter the Fire along with those who enter!"

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلاً۬ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱمۡرَأَتَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ

And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe, the wife of Firaun (Pharaoh),

إِذۡ قَالَتۡ رَبِّ ٱبۡنِ لِى عِندَكَ بَيۡتً۬ا فِى ٱلۡجَنَّةِ

when she said: "My Lord! Build for me a home with You in Paradise,

وَنَجِّنِى مِن فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَعَمَلِهِۦ

and save me from Firaun (Pharaoh) and his work,

وَنَجِّنِى مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ  

and save me from the people who are Zalimoon (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers in Allah).

وَمَرۡيَمَ ٱبۡنَتَ عِمۡرَٲنَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَحۡصَنَتۡ فَرۡجَهَا

And Maryam (Mary), the daughter of Imran who guarded her chastity;

فَنَفَخۡنَا فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِنَا

and We breathed into (the sleeve of her shirt or her garment) through Our Rooh (i.e. Jibrael (Gabriel)),

وَصَدَّقَتۡ بِكَلِمَـٰتِ رَبِّہَا وَكُتُبِهِۦوَكَانَتۡ مِنَ ٱلۡقَـٰنِتِينَ

and she testified to the truth of the Words of her Lord (i.e. believed in the Words of Allah: "Be!" and he was; that is Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary); as a Messenger of Allah), and (also believed in) His Scriptures, and she was of the Qaniteen (i.e. obedient to Allah).
